Bayonet, established in 1954, is a historic golf course that was built on the land that formerly housed Fort Ord, by General Robert B. McClure. It was named after the 7th Infantry Light Fighter Division, also known as the "Bayonet Division". Bayonet is a part of the Bayonet and Black Horse facility in Seaside, California, on the Monterey Peninsula. The facility boasts of two championship 18-hole courses, Black Horse and Bayonet. These courses were both designed by Gene Bates on a former 36-hole military facility. Black Horse spans over 7,000 yards from the championship tees and features rolling hills that offer stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. The facility includes a driving range, practice area, clubhouse, and dining area. This golf course is considered one of the best values in Northern California, and it is located just minutes from Pebble Beach and 17-Mile Drive. Until recently, only military personnel stationed at Fort Ord could enjoy these courses. However, the courses are now open to the public, offering a rare opportunity to play on these historic courses.
