Marquette Golf Club in Michigan stands as a premier golfing destination, featuring two exceptional 18-hole courses that cater to a range of skill levels and preferences. With comprehensive facilities including a specialized practice area, a quality bar, and a restaurant, the club offers a holistic golfing experience complemented by some of the most scenic vistas available from any tee box.
Golfers can enjoy a relaxed round on The Heritage, the club's original course known for its rolling hills and challenging large greens, designed to provide a fun yet testing round. Alternatively, the Greywalls course, carved directly from the Upper Peninsula's wilderness and opened in 2005, presents a more demanding challenge. This course is renowned for its artful design incorporating sloping fairways, undulating greens, and breathtaking views of the surrounding forests and Lake Superior. Greywalls has earned glowing reviews since its inception, continually impressing all who play it.
The club's history is rich with architectural innovation. The original nine holes, crafted by William Langford and Theodore Moreau in 1926, are complemented by a second nine added by David Gill in 1969. The front nine features gently rolling terrain with creative green complexes, while the back nine introduces more dramatic slopes and panoramic views, providing a memorable finish to the round.
William B. Langford, born in 1887 and a survivor of polio in his youth, took up golf as part of his rehabilitation and later became a celebrated golf course architect. A Yale University alumnus and later a graduate of Columbia University in Mining Engineering, Langford designed over 250 courses with his partner, Theodore J. Moreau. Their work includes the renowned Lawsonia Links and Skokie Country Club.
At Marquette Golf Club, every round is an opportunity to experience both the history and the innovation of golf. After a day on the links, the clubhouse awaits, offering a place to relax with a cold drink and a good meal, making every visit a profound experience beyond just the game.
