Inspired by seaside links courses in Scotland, England, and Ireland, the Starboard Course at Harborside International Golf Center ranks among the top golf layouts in the Chicago area. As the second course at this esteemed municipal facility, Harborside opened in 1996 with a design by Dick Nugent, who also created the original Port Course. The Starboard Course features no trees, numerous bunkers, tall fescue, and excellent conditions. It offers four sets of tees, ranging from 4,150 yards to 7,166 yards from the tips. The toughest hole, ranked as the no. 1 handicap, is the first—a long par 5 peppered with bunkers leading up to the green. Many holes include expansive bunkers either in the fairways or surrounding the greens. The signature hole, the 17th, known as "Buccaneers Cove," challenges players with a middle iron shot over Lake Calumet, which borders the right side of the angled green, while three deep bunkers on the left provide no room for error.
Both the Starboard and Port Courses are complemented by one of the Midwest's premier practice facilities. This includes a driving range with target greens, a practice bunker, chipping and pitching greens, and practice putting greens that simulate course conditions. Harborside offers exceptional golf instruction for those seeking to improve their game. The facility also boasts an expansive golf shop stocked with the latest in apparel, accessories, and equipment. Inside the 20,000 square-foot clubhouse, The Pier at Harborside restaurant serves American favorites such as wings, wraps, salads, Angus beef burgers, and a selection of beverages.
