The Preserve at Verdae, previously known as Verdae Greens, is a Willard Byrd design from 1991 and is considered one of the best golf courses in Greenville, South Carolina. The golf course is the main attraction of the Embassy Suites Greenville Golf Resort & Conference Center, but anyone can reserve a tee time. The Preserve at Verdae is a challenging championship layout that hosted the Greater Greenville Classic on the Nationwide Tour (now Kornferry Tour) from 1992 to 2000. Surrounded by a Carolina forest, this lush layout spreads over rolling hills and meadows that are crossed by babbling brooks. The course is almost entirely free of housing, and the backdrops and surroundings are stunning. The course stretches from 5,022 yards to 7,104 yards, and it is a challenge regardless of which of the five sets of tees you choose. Although the first two holes are relatively easy, the course becomes more challenging thereafter, with elevation changes, tilted terrain, thick woods, and challenging tee shots. You can expect some blind shots during the round due to the elevation changes. The Preserve at Verdae has fast, smooth, Mini-Verde Bermuda greens that pose a challenge to most players. The course has garnered national attention for its environmental commitment to harmonize the golf course with nature. More than 35 percent of the 175-acre course has been naturalized since 2011. All of the holes are named after their unique surroundings and natural features, and you are likely to see some wildlife during the round. The Preserve at Verdae's comprehensive practice facilities include an all-grass driving range, chipping green, sand bunker, and putting green. The clubhouse has a pro shop and a snack bar and hosts many events and outings due to its ties to the Embassy Suites, located across the parking lot.
