Since its inception in December 1997 as "The Links at Continental Ranch," this course has evolved significantly. Initially designed by Brian Huntley, it was built on the edge of a vast sand and gravel quarry. By 2000, plans were set in motion to reclaim the quarry, leading to a comprehensive redesign that relocated 10 holes into the former quarry while reconfiguring 8 existing ones. This transformation, completed in October 2003, gave birth to The Pines Golf Club at Marana, shifting from a Scottish Links style to a distinctive quarry course. The conversion not only enhanced the golfing experience but also benefitted the community. The property owner contributed to the local environment by constructing a nature trail along the nearby Santa Cruz River and donating it to the Town of Marana. This trail allows residents to enjoy scenic river views on one side and striking vistas of The Pines Golf Club on the other.
