The Club at Emerald Hills, situated a few miles from the Fort Lauderdale Airport in Hollywood, Florida, is regarded as one of South Florida's most challenging and acclaimed championship golf courses. Open to public golfers, it boasts meticulous maintenance, fast, smooth greens, a great practice facility, delicious cuisine, and a warm welcome. The course was constructed in 1969 by Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge on undulating terrain with hills and contours. The playing area is surrounded by condos and homes. Despite its length, eight teeing options ensure that golfers of all levels can enjoy the course. There is a delightful mix of holes, such as the elevated green at the par-4 4th hole, and the 18th hole, which is renowned as one of Florida's most challenging finishing holes, being a large par-5 with water on the left, out of bounds on the right, and a bulkheaded green with a creek crossing in front. Water comes into play on 10 holes, making it even more difficult when the wind picks up. The greens are a highlight of this course, typically being quick and true. Many significant tournaments have been held at The Club at Emerald Hills, including the U.S. Open, U.S. Senior Open, U.S. Amateur, U.S. Mid-Amateur, U.S. Public Links, and PGA Tour event qualifiers. Good golfers are drawn to this very challenging test, but with tee options as short as 4,939 yards, it can be enjoyed at all ability levels. Although it refers to itself as a hidden gem, it has certainly been discovered by many golfers who consider it one of South Florida's premier courses.
