Situated high in the majestic White Mountains in Show Low, Arizona, just three hours from Phoenix or Tucson, lies the beautiful Bison Golf & Country Club. This semi-private course features an impressive array of 18 picturesque golf holes, with some weaving through tall pine trees and others winding through a spacious grand meadow. The course, formerly known as Show Low Country Club and Golf Course, was acquired by Bison Homes in 2005 along with 360 acres of heavily wooded land. The acquisition led to the development of three new golf holes and a driving range on the new acreage, as well as a redesign of the existing holes. Nestled among the pine trees, luxurious cabin homes line the fairways of the new holes, all part of the master-planned community, Bison Crossing, which opened in 2007 together with the rechristened Bison Golf & Country Club. The course was designed by PGA Tour player and former ASU star, Billy Mayfair, who aimed to create a fun and fair golfing experience suitable for players of all levels. Mayfair's design seamlessly integrates the new holes with the surrounding environment while enhancing the existing holes with unique touches. Each hole on the course now stands out, demanding precision in approach shots, distance control, and mid-range iron accuracy. The highlight of Mayfair's design is the new signature hole, #18, a challenging par 5 that stretches 626 yards from the "tips" and winds narrowly through some of the tallest pines on the property. Known as "Thunderbeast," this hole features a small, well-protected green that is rarely reachable in two shots. By combining spectacular rolling hills and winding trails of ponderosa pines, Bison Golf & Country Club offers a unique mountain golf experience, allowing golfers to immerse themselves in the splendor and beauty of Arizona’s White Mountains.
